Dresden Elbe Valley
Dresden Elbe Valley was added to the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2004 to honor its unique landscape, architecture and art collection. The Dresden citizens have managed to save and harmonize the Saxony heritage of the 18 th-19 th century architectural Baroque edifices, old villages and modern industrial era of metal constructions of the Elbe valley located along the river.
Here Dresden tourists can find the luxurious terraces, staircases and entrances of the Baroque Pillnitz, Albrechtsberg and Zwinger Palaces facing the Elbe River. This wonderful view is available due to the Saxon Elector Frederick Augustus I who intended and successfully realized the amazing plan of the Elbe Florence.
The Zwinger Palace is a huge Baroque edifice which houses the number of art museums that can be honestly called the proud of Saxony. Here the Dresden tourists enjoy Italian medieval painting and the world-famous Meissen porcelain.
Another amazing feature of the Elbe Valley is the huge industrial remnants which are still vital and working. The Blue Wonder Steel Bridge and the unique 19 th century railway do still work and gladly take tourists to enjoy viewing Dresden countryside.
Look at the right to admire the bright and virgin nature with harmoniously embedded villages, gardens and vineyards which have saved their original sight till present days.
The Valley is enriched with the Dresden churches, cathedrals and castles which are carefully protected and supported by the Dresden citizens and world societies. The people of Dresden evolve world associations to invest in the Elbe architecture and cultural heritage by organizing annual music festivals, conferences and different historical events.
Among such activities one of the most attractive for tourists and Dresden visitors is the trips along Elbe performed by the 19 th century paddle-streamers. The original whistle of the nine paddle-streamers, the noise of the paddles, the slow speed and various entertainment programs aboard the ships involve their passengers in the reality of the 19 th century and vitally feel the atmosphere of the bourgeois life. The paddle-streamers’ trips are available from April to October and include guides’ accompaniment. The tourists can also offer an individual charter for special events such as birthdays, weddings etc. The Elbe River tours’ timetables, prices and bookings are available online.
